Riverfront Parks Recovery
Riverfront Parks Recovery
Tropical Storm Helene severely damaged Asheville’s riverfront parks and infrastructure systems. While significant efforts were made during the emergency period to clear debris and remove hazards, the time has come for the City of Asheville to plan for building back these important public spaces. In 2025, the City started two projects aimed at repairing, reassessing, and enhancing the resilience of riverfront parks, greenways, and infrastructure following Helene.
Reflecting the Community’s Voice
In February, we released design concepts for rebuilding parks and greenways along Asheville's riverfront areas. We heard from thousands of community members at community events and through surveys. Once the feedback is analyzed, it will be shared and professionals will translate it into a single unified design to be shared this summer.
The design concepts were the direct result of input gathered during at events and through surveys in late 2025 in which residents shared needs and wants for park features, accessibility, and environmental restoration following catastrophic flooding from Tropical Storm Helene in 2024.
