Chavis-Dix Strollway Community Input Survey 1
Chavis-Dix Strollway Community Input Survey 1
Thank you for participating in Survey 1 for the Chavis-Dix Strollway. The Strollway is a 1.3-mile cultural trail connecting John Chavis Memorial Park and Dix Park along the southern edge of downtown Raleigh. Building on the South Park Heritage Trail, the Strollway will feature interpretive elements that bring to life the people and places that shaped this area, making it a way to explore and celebrate Raleigh’s history. Your input will directly inform what is highlighted on Raleigh's second cultural trail.
The project is currently supported by $1.5 million in federal funding to develop a full concept plan for the entire length of the trail, informed by community input, while identifying a small segment for initial construction.
This voluntary survey is open April 23 - May 10 and takes 10-15 minutes to complete. Personal information will not be shared in any summaries or reports without permission.

Vision and Priorities
These questions explore what matters most to you in the design experience of the Strollway.
The Chavis-Dix Strollway builds upon the successful framework of signage, wayfinding, and interpretation of historical and cultural resources developed for the South Park Heritage Trail. A similar framework will be applied in a wide range of settings from residential areas to busy downtown streets that occur along the Strollway corridor.
5. The Strollway will connect users from John Chavis Memorial Park to Dix Park. What is most important to you for the Strollway corridor to focus on?
Please rank the following from most important at the top to least importantat the bottom.
6. What are the top 3 improvements you would like to see along the Strollway corridor?
Please number them 1 through 3.
7. Current project funding supports the development of a full concept plan for the entire length of this cultural trail, incorporating community input, while also identifying a small segment for initial construction — what will be considered phase 1. What are the top three elements you would like to be included in phase 1 of the Strollway?
Cultural Heritage and Community Memory
The Strollway will be designed to celebrate the rich history of the historic neighborhoods and districts that it touches and is surrounded by. Your stories and knowledge are a vital part of this project. Please share as much as you’d like. These stories may be used (with permission) to inform the design and interpretive content of the Strollway.
8. Do you have personal stories, memories, or family history connected to the Strollway corridor, including the Third and Fourth Wards, John Chavis Memorial Park, Dix Park, or the surrounding neighborhoods and landmarks that you would like to share?
9. Using the interactive map, drop a point or draw a line to comment if there are specific places, people, institutions, or events from the history of the Strollway corridor that you believe should be recognized or commemorated along the Strollway.
